Cheryl’s First Words

August 13th, 2009 | Posted in Cheryl's Blog | 4 Comments »

Thank you for logging into my blog.  This has been a very exciting and positive endeavor for everyone I know who has joined TEAM CHERYL and worked to help me learn things I didn’t know about Cleveland Heights.  I’m asking everyone who logs in and blogs with me to help me learn even more. Remember good government is a team sport and you can help this team perform better by helping us learn more and do more and include more people in the people’s process.  Good Government.

I look forward to talking with you.

Hello, Ms Stephens I think you are doing a grand job your mother would be proud!!! We need more people like you in local offices everywhere. People who are working for the better good not the gain of wealth or fame.

Once elected to the Cleveland Hts City Council how will you address to increase in crime in our city? I read plenty of news about budget issues, not enough about addressing the increase crime rate.

    Thank you

One of the serious and significant issues on my priority list is Safety. I do not have all of the answers so I am committed to working with others to find the solutions for our community. I also have a commitment to work with the Police Department to learn from their wealth of knowledge. In addition I have been doing research on community engagement and working with residents to help them learn what key issues need to be identified in advance by neighbors to help reduce certain types of crimes. Just this week in my walking and talking I learne about negative behavior at a commercial establishment in Cleveland Heights and I have begun conversations about how to reduce the negative impact on the business district. Remember it is not just the police who make a community safe it is all of us commiting to speak up when bad behavior happens.
